Ohio State helps U.S. Army Reserve with parachute drops

All dates for this event occur in the past.

On Saturday, June 9, from noon to 5:00 p.m., U.S. Army Reserve paratroopers will practice drops at the airport, weather permitting.

Airport and battalion officials have discussed plans to conduct the training drills every other month. Since the operations require complete closure of the airspace, they are scheduled to minimize disruption of normal airport activity. However, everyday civilian jump operators from around the area are not permitted to use the facility for this purpose. Only the military may use the facility with advanced notice.

The public will have the opportunity to view the jumps from the gravel parking lot behind the airport administration building. Because of the construction of the Austin E. Knowlton Executive Terminal and Aviation Learning Center, there is currently no public area to view the landings. In autumn of this year, an observation area will be available in the new building.
